Power and Propulsion on the Edge
A patent-pending series hybrid architecture built to scale from a light tactical vehicle to a maritime craft. More range, silent mobility, and serious exportable power, without hanging the mission on the next fuel resupply.
Fuel is the longest tail on the battlefield
Since 2010, MATBOCK has dedicated its mission to building gear from operator feedback. In 2021 we stood up a division dedicated to one problem: forward units need more power, more range, and less noise, and every gallon of fuel they burn has to be hauled to them.
Our answer is a series hybrid architecture that decouples the engine from the wheels or the prop. The generator runs at its most efficient point, the battery handles the peaks, and electric motors do the work. The result is a vehicle that can move silently, idle without the engine, and act as a power plant once it gets where it is going.
That architecture now sits at the core of a U.S. Army Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office (RCCTO) prototype program for the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle.
The engine never touches the drivetrain
That one design choice is what makes the system modular. Each block scales on its own, so the same architecture fits a truck, a boat, or a trailer.
Generate
JP-8 / diesel genset, 0–180 kW, running at its efficiency sweet spot.
Store
Deployable battery modules buffer the load and enable engine-off operation.
Propel
Electric motors from 20 kW to 2 MW+, with instant torque on demand.
Export
AC, LVDC, and HVDC power off the platform for C2, comms, and future weapons.
Engineered for land, air & maritime

Ground Vehicles
Conversion kits for tactical wheeled vehicles, starting with the JLTV. Silent mobility, silent watch, and onboard power.

Unmanned Air
Hybrid power and deployable battery modules to extend endurance for unmanned systems.

Maritime
Scalable series hybrid propulsion for waterborne craft, with reduced acoustic signature under battery.

Expeditionary Power
Towable generation and storage for microgrids, charging, and forward operating sites.
Scales to the mission, not the other way around
Every subsystem is modular and sized to the platform. Weight stays comparable to the combustion system it replaces.
JLTV Hybrid-Electric Conversion Kit
Bolt-on. Reversible. Installs in 24 hours.
Developed under a U.S. Army RCCTO prototype OTA, the kit converts a stock JLTV to series hybrid-electric with no permanent vehicle modifications and a standard military tool set.
Performance figures are engineering estimates based on prototype testing and are subject to change.
Funded, built, and in Army testing
The JLTV HEV effort has moved through four phases with the U.S. Army Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office.
Power & Propulsion division stands up
MATBOCK dedicates a team and facility to military hybrid-electric power and propulsion.
$6.9M prototype OTA awarded
RCCTO awards MATBOCK a prototype OTA to develop and deliver a JLTV HEV on the M1278A1 Heavy Gun Carrier, including a battery-only silent mobility mode.

Operationally driven
Veteran-owned and built around operator feedback. Requirements start in the field, not in a brochure.
Modular & open
Open architecture hardware and software, designed to MOSA principles so the government is not locked to a single vendor.
Proven execution
Four phases of Army prototype work, with vehicles built and delivered for government testing.
Rapid integration
COTS components and existing defense supply chains, designed for fast production scale-up.
Autonomy ready
Electric drive and open software architecture leave a clean path for future autonomous drive integration.
